Seattle Country Day School-Campus renovation and admission building project

Seattle Country Day School --campus renovation and admission building project

Located in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, the Seattle Country Day School project was a multi-phase tenant improvement project completed over two summers that updated and renovated various spaces to accommodate the ever-changing dynamic of the school’s activities.

The first phase of the project consisted of renovations to five areas of the campus including existing classrooms and offices during the summer of 2019. Construction commenced as soon as school finished for the summer and was turned over on schedule with time for staff to set-up their spaces for the upcoming school year. The scope of work included reconfigured layouts, new interior finishes, casework & lighting upgrades. Among the renovations was a new classroom for band class that included significant acoustical provisions to accommodate the classes activities and renovations to an existing house adjacent to the campus that is used as office space for various faculty.

Done in the summer of 2020, the second phase of the project included exterior improvements to the main entrance of the campus that included new entry canopies, wheelchair lift, new concrete stairs & landscaping upgrades. While material lead times & custom fabricated elements were a challenge to the short construction schedule, the new school entry was completed on schedule and was ready to welcome the students for the next school year.

A separate phase of the project consisted of a complete renovation of an existing house adjacent to the main campus. Previously used as a residence for the Head of School, it was converted into a new admission building for the school. After removing the entire 2nd floor of the house, the remaining structure was lifted up on shoring so the basement could be lowered, and new foundation walls placed. This allowed for a new basement conference room to be in the basement. Once the house was set on the new foundation, a new second floor was built that included office space for the admissions staff.
